CO MEATH: €1.85M:
SIX-BEDROOM Bellewstown House in Co Meath has come back onto the market just two years after its owners paid over €2 million for it in a pre- auction bid. Now relocating to Dublin, they’re leaving the house entirely redecorated, and have planted the grounds extensively.
The Georgian house (built around 1750) sits in five acres of land that includes stables, outbuildings, tennis court and orchard. Over the past two years the new owners have renovated and recarpeted the house.
The south-facing house, which is for sale through Savills HOK and O’Brien Collins Real Estate Alliance, for €1.85 million, is at the end of a long drive.
It was once the home of a grand farmer or land agent, and was later expanded by a Victorian resident who added an entrance hall. There is a sitting and drawingroom on either side of this, each with elegant, decorative plasterwork and marble chimneypieces.
The diningroom and kitchen are beyond these. The latter has a green Aga and simple tongue-and-groove pale units. There is a conservatory beside the kitchen and a courtyard beyond with a two-storey stone outbuilding.
An elegant winding stair runs to the first floor via a landing with a large sash windows from which to contemplate the terraced gardens.
On the first floor are four bedrooms with fitted wardrobes, including two large bedrooms to the front, one en suite. The two rear bedrooms straddle another bathroom, and there are two further bedrooms in the attic.
The grounds have roses, rhododendrons, magnolias and azaleas among its many shrubs and trees. There is also a small vegetable garden beside a stable block and hard tennis court.
The house is beside the Meath village of Bellewstown, which hosts an annual racing festival.
It is 35 minutes from Dublin city.
