The striking curvilinear apartment and townhouse blocks in Arklow Marina Village in Co Wicklow, with their lighthouse-shaped turrets and look-out posts, were designed to reflect the town's maritime tradition.

Overlooking the Avoca river and adjoining the new boating marina, the first two blocks of 62 apartments are being launched this weekend, with prices starting at £110,000 (€139,700). The joint selling agents are Ross McParland and Sherry FitzGerald Myles Doyle.

Built by developers Quayfront, there will be seven blocks in the scheme on completion, arranged around three landscaped courtyards with water features. The development is aimed at a range of budgets and lifestyles with more than nine different types of unit. One-bed apartments costing £110,000 (€139,700) are situated on the ground floor and are reasonably spacious at 530 sq ft.

Two-bedroom apartments range from 580sq ft to 900sq ft and cost from £125,000 (€158,750), and two-bed duplex units are 890sq ft and priced at £135,000 (€171,450).

The 580 sq ft £125,000 (€158,750) two-bedroom show apartment is accessed via a flight of steps from the main door. It has a sitting/dining area with a balcony and a galley Shaker-style kitchen. Both bedrooms have sliding doors to a second balcony. The apartment also features a shower room, hot press, and storage area.

The two-bed duplex show apartment has a bedroom at the lower level with a shower room en suite. Upstairs is a livingroom which leads out to a long curved balcony. Off the living area is a galley kitchen. The second bedroom is also en suite and features a large storage area.

The 1,235 sq ft three-bed three storey townhouse is £167,000, (€212,090) and has a large livingroom with a substantial kitchen adjoining and a downstairs toilet.

There are two double bedrooms with shower en suites at second level. At the top of the house there is a large en suite bedroom with a deep curved balcony with views of port and marina. Both the bathroom and the bedroom have storage cubby holes.

The four-bed three storey townhouse is 1,590 sq ft and costs £205,000 (€260,350). The show unit has a curved sittingroom with five lighthouse-style windows overlooking the front of the development and the river.

Like most of the units, it also has a pine fireplace with a gas inset fire. The diningroom is of a similar design to the sittingroom but smaller, with three long narrow windows. There is also a spacious Shaker-style kitchen at ground floor level and a downstairs toilet.

Upstairs, a spectacular bedroom has five windows built into a curved wall. There is also a second smaller double bedroom and single room on this floor as well as a bathroom.

Level three is taken up with a large timber-floored bedroom featuring sliding doors to an impressive wraparound balcony with glass and chrome surround. It also has a shower room.

As with most of the other units there are no built-in wardrobes due to the irregular shape of many of the walls.
