SWINWOOD LTD - a subsidiary of Treasury Holdings - is submitting a planning application to Wicklow County Council for a €250 million tourism development at Roundwood Park Estate in Co Wicklow.

Another subsidiary of Treasury Holdings, Real Estate Opportunities (REO), paid €17 million for the 377-acre estate in 2005, which was once the home of former president Seán T O'Kelly who acquired it in 1952. Following his death the property was purchased by Canadian Galen Weston who was at the centre of a failed kidnap attempt at the estate in August 1983 when gardaí arrested five men after a shoot-out.

Treasury is looking to build a luxury hotel with 301 bedrooms and suites spread over six storeys as well as a restaurant, bar, conference centre, library, business centre and a leisure centre with a gym, spa and swimming pool.

Other elements of the development include a 27-hole championship golf course, two practice greens, an equestrian centre and outdoor riding arena, and 60 tourist houses. The houses would comprise 16 six-bedroom 376sq m (4,047sq ft) split level houses and 44 four-bedroom houses of between 239sq m (2,573sq ft) and 272sq m (2,928sq ft).
