The PSNI has opened a murder investigation after a man who was left in critical condition after an alleged assault in Co Tyrone on Monday died.
Stephen Holmes (31) died on Saturday after sustaining “significant injuries” in an assault at a house in Strabane earlier in the week.
He was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital following the incident on Monday morning and was later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
A PSNI spokesman said: “Police received a report at approximately 3.15am on Monday, February 3rd that a man, aged in his 30s, was seriously assaulted in the Beechmount Village area of Strabane.

“The victim has been named as 31-year-old Stephen Holmes from the Strabane area. Mr Holmes, who was in a critical condition in hospital, sadly passed away today, Saturday, February 8th, as a result of his injuries.
The spokesman said charges concerning a 31-year-old man who appeared before Strabane Magistrates' Court on Thursday, February 6th in connection with the investigation, will now be reviewed by officers.
