A woman has died following a two-vehicle crash in Slieverue, Co Kilkenny.

She has been named locally as Mary Grennan (75) from Ballycurran, Tullogher, Co Kilkenny.

The incident on the N25 at Luffany occurred at about 5.50pm on Friday. Mrs Grennan, the driver of one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was brought to University Hospital Waterford for postmortem.

The driver of the second vehicle, a man aged in his 30s, and a passenger, a woman aged in her 20s, were brought to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The N25 road between the Luffany Roundabout and the Glenmore Roundabout was closed on Saturday morning with local diversions in place while the scene was examined by investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, particularly any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) who were travelling on the N25 between Luffany Roundabout, Slieverue and Glenmore between 5.30pm and 6.15pm on Friday.

Mrs Grennan had worked in the eye department at University Hospital Waterford in Ardkeen. She is survived by her husband Paddy and five children. Her funeral will take place at St David’s Church, Listerlin, on Wednesday.
