Two French wines from Aldi this week – if you are still on the hunt for Christmas wines, both of these would do nicely for the big feast.
Alsace produces some excellent dry white wines, as well as increasingly good red wines and some fantastic sweet options too. Unlike Germany, most of their riesling is dry, including the wine below.
Cairanne is one of the lesser-known wines of the Southern Rhône. Close to more famous names such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, and similar in style, it usually sells at about half the price.

Louis Weiss Alsace Riesling 2023
12.5%, €9.99
Lightly floral, medium-bodied, with lime zest and clean green apple fruits finishing dry. Perfect on its own, with Asian dishes, chicken, or most seafood starters.

Specially Selected Cairanne 2022
14.5%, €11.99
Rich and powerful, with rounded smooth red fruits and a touch of spice. This would go nicely with turkey and most red meats.
