Interesting, very interesting. Ry Cooder is one of the world’s best guitarists, and, perhaps more crucially, he’s a musician who has embraced Americana, blues and
world music, from Blind Willie Johnson to Buena Vista Social Club, Taj Mahal to Ali Farka Toure. Here, Cooder teams up once more with Nick Lowe, a British gent of a songwriter, who leans towards classic pop and rock. Stir in support musicians such as Tex-Mex accordionist Flaco Jiménez and Cooder’s drummer son, Joachim, and you have a ready-made evening of song, dance, jazz, rhythm and – genuinely – whatever you’re having yourself.
A heady mixture, then – for those who can afford the extravagant ticket price. (Cooder, Lowe and co perform at Belfast’s Waterfront Auditorium next week; the ticket price up North is £65/£60. Can someone please explain why the tickets in the Republic are so incredibly expensive?)
