HORSLIPS The Return of the Dancehall Sweethearts Horslips Records  ****

It's all coming back now - seeing Horslips as a teenager and wondering how their parents allowed them to have such long hair and wear such uncommonly cool clothes as satin jackets and elephant loon trousers. It's an age ago, of course, but Maurice Linnane's documentary (a section of which was shown on RTÉ last year) documents from band inception to split. The trip was long and strange: 10 years or so of rushing around Ireland, Europe and America with their quite unique blend of prog-rock and Irish traditional tunes. This two-disc set features an extended documentary (with talking-head inserts from Bono, Pat McCabe, Edge, John Waters, Philip Chevron and Joe O'Connor) and onstage did-we-really-look-like-that? footage from 1973-79. A well crafted, handsome piece of work, comprehensive and detailed; a DVD-ROM section includes a slideshow, weblinks and interactive calendar. www.horslips.ie
