Falling down a mountain 4AD ****
Always one of the best bands you've never heard of, Tindersticks have been creating quiet moments of musical magic on the margins for a number of years.

Eschewing traditional rock instruments for a wider, semi-orchestral sound, they delve deep into the corners of jazz-inflected rock, with Stuart Staples' vocals always a beguiling centre point. On this, their eight studio album, they effortlessly dream up moments of wonder, such as the elegiac beauty of Keep You Beautiful. Mary Margaret O'Hara emerges from semi-obscurity to duet on Peanuts, and elsewhere – on Black Smoke, for example – they speed up the tempo to great effect. Their profile might have dipped somewhat since the heady days of the first few albums, but Falling Down A Mountainis another compelling instalment in their oft-overlooked musical career.
