You may not have heard of R. City, but you’ll certainly know their songs.

Writing and production duo Theron and Timothy Thomas are responsible for songs by Rihanna, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus and more, but the Virgin Islands brothers’ own debut release is no 180-turn from the norm.

This is reggae-inflected hip-hop with an eye-rolling amount of Auto-Tune, exceptionally polished production and consequently, no real character.

Maroon 5's Adam Levine features on the forgettable Locked Away and Akon turns up on the clichéd Live By the Gun to no great effect.

The ping and zoom of Broadway adds some texture and their sample of Lenny Kravitz on Over suggests some inkling of creativity, but unless you're predisposed to exceedingly glossy pop and hip-hop, this is as anodyne as it comes.
