Little Simz is a big noise in the making, and the north London MC’s debut album has her narrating engaging tales about life and struggles.
Like the mix-tapes that have shown her progress to date, A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons is no-nonsense, warm, engaging and distinctive.
Simz has much to say and pushes many buttons, from tackling the notion of fame on The Lights to throwing down on the sexualisation of the music industry on Persons (with the killer line that "women can be kings").
Her flow is impressive, reminding you in places of Drake or Lauryn Hill in her pomp.
Simz is still working out her rough edges and finding her way through the artistic jungle, but it will be well worth sticking with her for the duration.
