Seemingly unperturbed by the task of putting out one very good album after another, Canadian singer-songwriter Emm Gryner (who is also a member of folk/pop/roots trio Trent Severn) delivers her umpteenth studio album without so much as a shrug – or, at least, she makes it look like that. Gryner is one of the most under-rated pop/rock songwriters of the past decade. Try as she might to make music supervisors sit up, take notice and use her perfect-fit songs on their TV shows, it seems she is destined to remain a (resolutely independent) secret. Superb pop (Excess Baggage, Sundown on Us, What Fighters Do (Here Comes Christmas), Bright Spot) as well as Math Wiz, a very fine weepy-ballad that, er, cries out for a packet of hankies, testify to her continued high levels of quality control. emmgryner.com
