Mairead Buicke (soprano) Nicola Benedetti, (Violin) RTÉ NSO/Takuo Yuasa NCH, Dublin Fri 8pm
Scottish megastar violinist Nicola Benedetti goes on tour playing the Tchaikovsky concerto with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra under Takuo Yuasa this week.
The programme, which includes Beethoven's Second Symphony and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, also continues the orchestra's Samuel Barber centenary celebrations, with soprano Mairéad Buicke singing Knoxville: Summer of 1915.
Between the Dublin and Galway performances, the orchestra is giving an all-star Haiti fund-raising concert at the NCH on Monday, with clarinettist John Finucane and pianists Finghin Collins, Hugh Tinney and Barry Douglas.
The day before that, Dubliners are spoilt for a choice with a double Bach offering: the Dublin Bach Singers under Blánaid Murphy give the St Matthew Passionat the Pro-Cathedral (at 4.30pm and 8pm) and Our Lady's Choral Society, under Proinnsías Ó Duinn, perform the Mass in B minor at the NCH at 8pm.
