There’s such an abundance of trio sonatas that you might wonder why anyone would want to plunder Bach’s organ music to arrange more. Well, sadly, the trio sonata was not much cultivated by Bach, so the six Trios he wrote for organ have long been an irresistible temptation for chamber ensembles. Richard Stone, lutenist with the Tempesta di Mare Chamber Players of Philadelphia has produced carefully varied versions for two to six instruments, combining wind (various recorders and flute), strings and continuo (with both lute and harpsichord) – the sonata for just two players is for lute and harpsichord. Bach himself was such an inveterate arranger that I’m sure he would have enjoyed these imaginative recreations. url.ie/f1f2
