When it comes to Aisling, Enya has a lot to answer for, and we're not just talking the single-word moniker. An Enya-like mystical atmosphere runs throughout this Wexford-born, Manchester-based singer's debut album, but the 10 songs come across as studio-constructed, lacking in personality and depth. Aisling's pure, hymnal voice is undeniably impressive on the slow throb of For the Longest Time and The Fall, and the occasionally dubious arrangements err on the side of tastefulness. Even so, songs such as Save the Day and I Will Make a Fire seem tailored at best for wedding music and at worst for tourist centre muzak. The songs and their cheesy style have done an obviously talented vocalist a disservice. musicofaisling.com
