LEINSTER DID the senior and under-21 interprovincial double at Grange Road yesterday, the teams taking maximum points from their games against Ulster and Munster, with Ulster dethroned in both events.

After Friday’s 4-1 win over the defending champions, who were seeking a three-in-a-row in the senior competition, and after Ulster then drew 2-2 with Munster on Saturday, Leinster needed just a point yesterday to secure the title.

It was 1-1 at half-time against Munster, who needed to win the game by two clear goals, Gareth Watkins, scorer of hat-trick on Friday, getting his fourth goal of the tournament, with John Jermyn converting for Munster. Pembroke Wanderers’ Andy McConnell, though, sealed the victory in the second half for the hosts.

Similarly, a point was all the Leinster under-21 side required going in to yesterday’s game against Munster but they, like their senior counterparts, finished up with a win, Davy Carson, Brian Doherty and Stephen Cole getting their goals in a 3-2 victory.
