JANE BIRKIN
Pavilion Theatre, Dún Laoghaire, Dublin Sat 8pm €32/€30 01-2312929
God, but Jane Birkin must sometimes regret faking an orgasm at the, er, climax of 1969’s Je t’aime . . . moi non plus (which she performed with fellow agent provocateur Serge Gainsbourg), at one time the most-banned pop song in Europe. Now, it’s little more than a groovesome tune, but back in the day Birkin attained the status of Scarlet Woman. She has since battled against such perceptions quite successfully – although the topic of the banned song raises its head in almost every interview conducted with her. The past decade, however, has seen her elegantly drift over to rock/pop’s demimonde, with the likes of Feist, Franz Ferdinand, Placebo, Beck, Yann Tiersen, Rufus Wainwright and Beth Gibbons clambering to record with or write songs for her. Former wife of Bond composer John Barry, mother of slinky actor Charlotte Gainsbourg, arthouse movie star, faker of orgasms – we salute you!
