Whelan’s, Dublin Sun 4pm €20 01-4780766/1890-200078
In the first of a new all-day series of gigs, the Foggy Jam folks have gathered together seven acts, kicked open the doors of Whelan’s far too early on the Sabbath (4pm!), and given us all a golden opportunity to catch some of the hippest people around. Headliners No Age (skate scene-influenced noise-pop duo Randy Randall and Dean Spunt from LA) are serviced exceptionally well further down the bill by the likes of New York’s Mice Parade (multi-faceted types from Eno-esque to ethnic), London’s Male Bonding (retro pop/rock, above), Norway’s Silje Nes (subtlety with strings attached), and Irish acts Squarehead (clean-cut pop in a fistfight with dirty slacker rock) and Hipster Youth teenage daydream in a digital age). Seven acts for 20? Did we say value for money? No? Well, we should have.
