There’s a new festival in Co Carlow this weekend. The Barrow River Arts Festival is based in Borris House, and its directors are violinist Maya Homburger and composer/ double bassist Barry Guy (above), who will make a number of appearances over the festival’s three days. Among the other performers are Dutch baritone Maarten Koningsberger, in a 17th- century programme featuring Purcell (with harpsichordist Malcolm Proud); and English tenor James Gilchrist performing Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin with Finghin Collins.

Collins is back in action with the RTÉ NSO this week, directing three Mozart piano concertos from the keyboard in Galway, Limerick, Cork and Waterford. The Geneva-based Quatuor Terpsycordes open a Music Network tour on Friday, playing a programme that represents all four centuries of the string quartet’s history in works by Mozart, Brahms, Henri Dutilleux and Deirdre McKay.

And Monday sees the opening of Sensorium at the Project Arts Centre, a multidisciplinary music festival curated by Judith Ring, Angie Atmadjaja and Emily Kalies.
