A man (30s) who charged at gardaí with a samurai sword in west Dublin last week has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

The attack, footage of which was widely circulated on social media, resulted in damage to a garda patrol car.

The incident took place in Castaheany, Dublin 15 on Thursday morning, January 23rd. The gardaí had called to the man’s house to arrest him.

Video footage shows the man, wearing a dressing gown, pursuing the unarmed gardaí back to their patrol car.
