Glanbia's group managing director John Moloney is to step down from his role a year early, the global nutritional solutions and cheese group said yesterday.

In a statement, Glanbia said finance director Siobhan Talbot would become group managing director designate from June.

Ms Talbot joined Glanbia in 1992, becoming a member of the group operating executive in 2000, and finance director in 2009.

Glanbia, which is holding its AGM today, said it will announce the appointment of a new group finance director in due course.

“I feel that after 12 years at the helm and over 25 years with the Group it is the right time for all concerned to pass the leadership of Glanbia to someone new,” Mr Moloney said.

He said Ms Talbot will bring drive, energy, deep knowledge and commitment that will move Glanbia to the next phase of growth and development.

The company has also appointed Hugh McGuire to the board as an executive director with responsibility for global performance nutrition, and Brian Phelan as chief executive of global ingredients.

Mr Phelan, who was appointed to the board in January, will head up global ingredients, a newly formed business segment incorporating the US cheese business as well as global nutritionals’ ingredients technologies and customised pre-mix solutions.

Glanbia last week reported a solid performance for the first four months of the year, with revenue up 9 per cent compared with the same period in 2012.
