Airfield Park lies just opposite RTÉ on the Stillorgan Road in Donnybrook, and takes its name from adjacent Airfield House, which was leased by RTÉ until 1990 when it was sold. It is now the headquarters of Providence plc – the Irish-based oil and gas exploration company.
When purchased by its current owners in 2004, number 3, Airfield Park, was a run of the mill three bed semi-detached house with 148sq m of space over two floors.
In 2008, the owners engaged architect Eamon Regan to extend and fully renovate the property. "It was, to be honest, a little confused and lacked clarity, with a few pokey rooms. We decided to remove a bedroom to create a double-height hallway, and installed cathedral ceilings to add a sense of space and light. The focus was on the redistribution of space," says Regan.

This property is now all about space and light. An old white Phalaenopsis orchid sitting out of direct light in the main reception room has a whopping 41 flowers in bloom, testament to the passive heat and light the house offers.
The redesign saw the property double in size to its current offering of 307sq m, which is now laid out over three floors. A small staircase from the mezzanine on the first floor leads to two attic rooms, which have up until recently been used as bedrooms. The property has four double bedrooms plus two bathrooms on the first floor.
Storage
The attention to storage is evident – with every inch of space utilised this house would easily accommodate a large family and still remain clutter-free.
There are two reception rooms, an office and a state of the art kitchen which, despite being a decade old is perfect, and comes with two Miele dishwashers and a five-oven Aga with a summer setting.
The rear garden has an al fresco dining area, where polished travertine floors from the kitchen (the rest of the house is solid oak and walnut) extend outside. A colossal olive tree creates a natural divide between this and a raised sun deck.
The property, within walking distance of the Teresian School and UCD, will attract buyers in search of a substantial family home, and is on the market through DNG with an asking price of €1.65 million.
