The game of will he/won't he retire keeps swirling around Gary McGann, the chief executive of the Smurfit Kappa group. The more board seats he picks up, the more the rumours are fuelled. McGann, a former director of Anglo Irish Bank, this week bagged himself a seat on the board of Green REIT, the listed property vehicle linked to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre owner Green Property. Pat Gunne, a Green executive, joined him.

McGann's directorships now include UDG Healthcare, Aon Ireland, the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, and Ibec.
