In the early hours of Monday morning, Drimnagh residents were alerted to the sound of gunshots and garda sirens in the area around the Knocknarea Road. Locals emerged on to streets flooded with gardaí and a helicopter circling in the sky above.
It quickly emerged a 20-year-old man named Josh Itseli had been shot dead in an attack bearing all the hallmarks of a gangland killing.
Gardaí investigating the shooting later sized body armour, firearms and a suspected pipe bomb and arrested three men.
