Web Log: Facebook still rules for teenagers using social media

Despite what you might hear, a survey shows it is still more popular than other platforms

While 71 per cent of young adults used more than one social media platform, when asked what one they used most, 44 per cent said it was Facebook

Media outlets are fond of declaring that Facebook is not popular with teens any more, as they have all supposedly migrated to Instagram and Snapchat. The numbers suggest otherwise: a recent survey carried out by the Pew Research Center polled more than 1,000 US teens aged 13 to 17 and the results are surprising. While 71 per cent of young adults used more than one social media platform, when asked what one they use most, 44 per cent said it was Facebook. Interestingly, the survey found differences between household income level: wealthier teens were more likely to use Snapchat most while teens from lower income households were more likely to prefer Facebook.
