Derry GAA were given permission at Saturday’s Central Council meeting to lease their Centre of Excellence facilities at Owenbeg to Derry City FC on a temporary basis while the League of Ireland side completes development work over the next two years.
Protocols governing the use of a countdown clock and hooter in the National Football League, which starts next week, were accepted. It is likely that the system will be initially introduced in the top two divisions before being rolled out to all league matches.
The Football Review Committee vacancies created by the return of Michael Murphy to Donegal colours and the departure of Malachy O’Rourke to manage Tyrone were filled by Central Council.
Laois All-Ireland final referee Maurice Deegan and Tyrone All-Ireland winning captain Peter Canavan have been nominated to join the FRC. The initial committee had been criticised for the lack of a refereeing perspective, which Deegan’s appointment now addresses.
