Sir – In “Has pandemic changed how we conduct funerals?” (Opinion, November 2nd) the writer asks: “Will the restrictions have a long-lasting impact on how we conduct funerals?”
Our association of funeral directors thinks they will, but in a positive way. Feedback from our 260 members across Ireland is that people want to get back to the familiar funeral rituals, while embracing creative solutions that emerged during Covid restrictions.
One practical example being the use of online condolence books, in which mourners can write detailed messages of sympathy instead of the hurried and often illegible scrawl of the physical condolence book at a church or funeral home.
