Two dead and one injured in separate crashes in Westmeath, Kilkenny and Cavan

Gardaí investigating incidents in which pedestrian and motorcyclist were killed

Two people have died and a woman has been injured following three separate traffic incidents in Co Westmeath, Co Kilkenny and Co Cavan.

A male pedestrian in his 30s, died following a collision in Co Westmeath in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The incident took place on the N4 close to Mullingar at around 12.30am.

The man's body was removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital where a postmortem examination was carried out.

The driver of the car received minor injuries and was also treated in hospital.

A motorcyclist in his 20s died after he was involved in a collision with a truck on the N78 at Clashduff, Co. Kilkenny at about 11am.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to St Luke’s General Hospital for a a postmortem.

Separately, a woman in her 60s has been injured following a collision between a car and a lorry on the R179 outside the village of Kingscourt in Co Cavan.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 60s, was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Her condition is understood to be serious. The driver of the truck was unharmed. The scene is currently preserved and local traffic diversions are in place. Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact the Garda.
