The only bike repair kit you'll need

A portable drive the size of a credit card, and an emergency whistle also feature in this week's Travel Gear

Samsung T3 portable drive

For a sense of scale, Samsung’s T3 is only the size of a credit card. That’s packing light. Its models ramp up to 2TB of storage, with the ultra-compact size no compromise to performance. To start it’s a SSD (solid state drive) so no spinning disc needing to get up to speed – it’s just there, ready and quiet. And then there’s the fast USB 3.0 connection. Older computers may only have USB 2.0, so it will still run on them, just not with the same jip. In fact with USB 3.0 it might almost match your internal drive’s speed. It’s not cheap, though if compared on a per GB basis not expensive either. 250GB model for €165 from maplin.ie

All-in bike multitool

Designed by an Italian mechanics teacher, the All In Multitool (might need a more distinctive name) slides into the crank hollow on your bike where seven powerful little neodymium magnets hold it. Inside find bits with four Allen keys, a Phillips head and a Torx head – just about everything you’d need for running repairs. The tool handle hinges to give you turning leverage. It’s sized to fit most bikes though the surround needs to be steel for the magnets. You can get a money-back return if doesn’t fit. €65 from allinmultitool.co.uk

Wiso smart emergency whistle

Given that most objects seem to be welcoming a smart prefix nowadays, why not an emergency whistle too? Blow into this and as well as whistling it automatically sends SMS and email containing an SOS message along with a Google Map location to up to three contacts. As with many new “smart” gadgets, it pairs with a smartphone and associated app to manage and set this up. Oh, and there’s a button activation too if you haven’t the puff. £19.99 from amazon.co.uk
