Ali for the high jump

Here’s a sight that may inspire you to visit Cork next Saturday: Ali Hewson plans to abseil from Ireland’s tallest building with 50 student gardaí in aid of Chernobyl Children’s Project International. The building is the Elysian, 83m and 17 storeys high. The fundraiser, running from 10am to 5pm, is for the Home of Hope project, which provides homes for children previously abandoned into state institutions in Belarus.

A Mexican resort is offering tourists a “flu free guarantee” if they book holidays to Mexico by June 30th, for travel until December 20th. The Secrets and Dreams chain of resorts and spas is promising guests who contract H1N1 influenza while on holiday that they will be offered holidays in the same resort for three years running free of charge.

Guests must provide blood-test results confirming the virus.

Flights and transfers will not be included. Sunway (www.sunway.ie) is offering all-inclusive deals to the resorts from about €1,300 per person.
